Seit dem 20. Mai diesen Jahres ist es nicht mehr möglich mit der Wii und dem DS Online zu spielen. Nintendo kündigte dieses Vorgehen schon im Februar an und schaltete nun den „Wi-Fi Connection“ Dienst ab. Dies betrifft allerdings nur den Multiplayer vieler Spiele. Andere Dienste wie die Hulu App, dem Internet Browser und der Nintendo Shop sind davon nicht betroffen und weiterhin nutzbar.

Sowohl der DS (US & JP 2004 / EU 2005) als auch die Wii (2006) haben fast zehn Jahre auf dem Buckel und scheinen sich für Online-Multiplayer nicht mehr zu lohnen. Die Wii U und der 3DS werden weiterhin voll mit allen Online Diensten unterstützt.
